Turning Titles into Tales : The Book

O vestíbulo do instituto acolleu este mes de xuño a exposición Turning Titles into Tales, actividade de “escritura creativa” realizada polo alumnado de 1º do Bacharelato, mais faltaba pórlle o ramo a dita actividade e que mellor forma que un libro que recollese unha selección dos traballos expostos, tanto en formato papel como dixital, e que agardamos sexa do voso agrado.

Magazine Challenge – Feedback

This year we have changed the Magazine Race into a Magazine Challenge. It’s been probably a bit more difficult, but we thought it would be more interesting. Over 100 students handed in the questionnaires – 44 from 1º/2º ESO, 16 from 3º/4º ESO, and 49 form Bacharelato - and a lot of questionnaires were correct in spite of some spelling and grammar mistakes. In fact, we had to draw lots to choose the winners, who were:

- Rubén Iglesias (2º D de ESO)

- Javiera Cortés (3º A de ESO)

- Beatriz Jácome (1º B de Bach)

They were given an English reader with CD and a free snack at the school canteen for a week. We hope to have our contests next near again. See you!

The USA and the UK

Students get English language through language studies and through getting knowledge of the history, geography, culture and traditions of different English speaking countries. As source of information to prepare their projects on the USA and the UK students read

- 4º A/ B: THE USA(by Alison Baxter). Factfiles. Oxford University Press
- 4º C/D : BRITISH LIFE LIFE (by Anne Collins). Penguin Readers.

with copies at the school library, and used encyclopaedia, dictionaries and the Internet.

The projects are not just stuck on the walls to be seen but to be worked on by the rest of the school students. Some questions have been prepared and answers will have to be found out reading carefully through the 4th level students works.

The experience has been quite motivating.

READERS’ QUEST – FEEDBACK

This year our Readers’ Quest has been a bit more successful.

About 60 students handed in the questionnaires (almost twice as many as last year), most of them from Bacharelato, and all the answers in nine questionnaires were correct in spite of some spelling and grammar mistakes.

In fact, we had to draw lots to choose a winner, and the winner was Oscar Otero, a student in the fourth year of ESO. He was given two books, one in English and one in Galician, and a free snack at the school canteen for a week.

We guess the students in the 1st and 2nd year of ESO have found the questions a bit difficult as we didn’t get any questionnaires from those classes, but don’t worry! We’ll have an easier contest for you before the school year ends.
